Who is permitted to change the Sprint Backlog during the Sprint?

The Development Team is the only group authorized to modify the Sprint Backlog during the Sprint. The Sprint Backlog is a dynamic artifact that reflects the work the Development Team has chosen to complete in the current Sprint. As the team works, they may discover new information, face unexpected challenges, or identify tasks that need to be adjusted to achieve the Sprint Goal.

The Development Team collaborates to determine how to best accomplish their work and can reassign or modify tasks within the Sprint Backlog without requiring approval from outside parties. This autonomy is a key characteristic of self-organizing teams in Scrum, allowing them to respond flexibly to changes and maintain progress toward their goals throughout the Sprint.

The other groups, such as the Scrum Master, Key Stakeholders, and the Product Owner, can offer insights or suggestions, but cannot directly change the Sprint Backlog. This reinforces the role of the Development Team as the primary executor of the work, ensuring accountability and ownership over the development process.
